Caring for your fabric and leather products

Product Care is important and just like any article of clothing, upholstered furniture needs proper cleaning and care on a regular basis. Ask our friendly staff about the quality range of fabric and leather care products available through our stores.

Below is some important information on how to care for fabric and leather lounges.

Fabric care
Upholstered furniture should be vacuumed regularly (weekly) using low suction, for maximum resiliency, to remove the dust and dirt which damage fabric fibres and cause premature wear. Hand fluff pillows and cushions to maintain shape. Cushions also should be turned and rotated regularly for even wear. Take care to prevent sharp objects such as rings, buckles and pets’ claws from coming into contact with furniture, as this may cause snagging or tearing of the fabric.

Pilling can occur occasionally as a result of normal daily wear and should not be considered as a fault. De-pilling only removes unsightly loose surface fibres and does not affect the fabric’s performance.

Exposure to natural light can cause some fabrics to fade. Care should be taken to limit the amount of sunlight on any piece of furniture. Fading is not covered under product warranties.

Fabric protectors do not eliminate the need for vacuuming, routine cleaning or proper care. They will, however, make spot cleaning and vacuuming quicker, easier and more efficient between professional cleans and keep fabric looking cleaner longer, as well as extending its life.

Spills and accidents can permanently stain upholstery fabrics. Even a water spill can cause permanent damage to some fabrics if not cleaned up immediately. Professional cleaning is recommended every 12 months.

Leather care
Leather is a natural product and it needs to be taken care of in a particular way. Regular cleaning of leather lounges can make it stay clean and new, however the frequency will depend on the how often the products are used.

To extend the life of your lounge, consider the following things to avoid.

1.    Keep your leather furniture at least 600 mm away from heating sources. It will cause the leather furniture to dry out.
2.    Avoid placing the leather furniture in direct sunlight. It will make all materials fade over time, especially unprotected leathers.
3.    Never placing harsh cleaning chemicals on your leather.
4.    Pets or sharp material will cause damage on the surface of the leather.
